Day 1

Following on from our time in Florence, our next stop in Italy was none other than Venice! We arrived just after midday and dropped the car off which was overwhelming with people everywhere. We managed to find our way to the right water taxi and shortly after found our Airbnb – right next to Rialto Bridge. We were staying the heart of Venice, and it definitely was the busiest the place we’d been.

The sun was relentless. We popped out for some food before a quick afternoon nap before our walking tour. Our guide was young, Australian, seemed a bit anxious but was really cool! She showed us the quieter parts and gave us some great tips. Like where to take a Gondola from to make sure you don’t end up in traffic jams and a spectacle for passers-by.

We then headed to a dinner spot recommended by friends – and it didn’t disappoint! We slowly made our way back meandering through quiet neighbourhood’s void of people. That was until we found Gelato!

I never thought I’d enjoy Venice as much as I did. Despite the crowds it really is so unique and alluring. No wonder so many cities have their own ‘little Venice’!

Day 2

The previous day felt like one of the hottest days of the week long trip. It probably had something to do the lightning and thunder storm at night which unfortunately I didn’t get any photos off.

Aidan and I got up just before 6am and headed too Ponte dell'Accademia, a wood and metal bridge with good views. The streets where empty – it was such change from midday. The sunrise was a little underwhelming but we got some cool shots and headed back where the rest of fam were getting ready.

With Mum, Pa & Aidan due to fly out to Berlin that evening we made a quick trip to Burano and Murano – two small islands not too far from Venice. I’ve made a separate post for it here.

Once we got back to Venice we said our goodbyes and Monita and I caught up with fellow photographer and all round good guy James. We wondered around Venice, eating and drinking as we went and dodging the sun the best we could. After a final wine we said goodbye to James and sought our final meal. After making the most of good seafood we collected our bags and made our way to the water taxi to take to the airport. Sadly we missed our flight (not a bad effort after a run of 21 flights we didn’t miss!) But that’s another story for another day.

I love creating images that speak to me.

I grew up in a small town that nobody really knows about, Levin. Spent a good ten years in Hamilton making some of the best friends anyone could have. And now I’m living, working and playing in the city of Auckland, New Zealand. Also a small country that people have trouble locating – I’m looking at you America!

Life is about stories, and that’s what I love to capture and document. My shooting style is unobtrusive. You may be a natural in front of the camera, or have no idea what to do but before we even start I’ll make sure you’re comfortable and relaxed.

Things I love: Travelling to wherever I can, my partner Monita, homemade burgers, wood fired pizzas, the smell of rain on a hot summers day, mountains, the snow, sunsets and sunrises, star gazing, natural light, the aesthetic of wood, crashing waves and day dreaming.
