Morocco / Day 1
We left the house around 4am for our first ever flight from Luton. We got in the air just before 7am and landed in Marrakesh around 10:30am. Then it took an hour and a half to clear security, not the best use of time. A shuttle had been organised by Traveltalk to take us to the hotel. Unfortunately for everyone else we were the last to clear security, sorry!
"The road chaos in Marrakech was a perfect example of their way of life. Fend for yourself or you will be left behind, fight or flight, survival of the fittest. Multiple children (helmet-less) hanging off the back of a scooter while their mother and father sit up front. The chaos was somewhat organised but it was the epitome of the Moroccan way - anything goes, no rules, no expectations, just dealing with life as it presents itself." - Laura Morrison
We couldn’t check in until 2, which was then pushed out to 3pm. We grabbed some lunch, sat in the sun and started to get to know our fellow travellers. We finally got into our room and Monita and I just crashed out, knowing we had a full day to explore Marrakesh after the tour. Some others from the group had gone into the Medina and checked out the markets.
At around 7pm everyone on the tour met in the lobby. Then our tour leader, Abdoul gave us a run down on what we would be getting up to over the week. He was hilarious from the start, I knew then that this was going to be fun. At 8 those who wanted to, met in the lobby again and we headed into the Medina (old town) on our bus with our driver, Amu. Abdoul had organised a group dinner consisting of traditional Morrocan food - tajine's, meat skewers, salad and bread.
Fun fact: Tajine isn't actually the meal, its physically the name of the dish the meal is cooked in!
