Krakow / Poland
Day 1 & 2
Krakow was our first stop on a two week adventure before settling down in the French Alps for three months, it also marked the end of our time in London. I'll be covering the last of our days in London in another post.
We flew out on Boxing Day from Standsted in the early evening. We arrived, somehow ended up clearing customs last and ordered an Uber to our Airbnb. The Uber was our first taste of our how much cheaper Eastern Europe can be, ideal when you’re no longer employed and have to make every cent count!
Not only was it one of the cheapest places we stayed, but also one of the nicest! We headed to bed as the next morning we got up super early to spend the first half of the day at Aushwitz. See the post on Aushwitz here.
Once we arrived back into Krakow we grabbed some pierogi (traditional polish dumpling) and wandered through the old town back to our Airbnb and called it a day.
Day 3
We started the day with coffee at a local spot with the decor making us feel like we were in someone’s lounge, was pretty cool! We then spent the rest of the day exploring around the old town, visiting Wawel Royal Castle, St. Mary’s Basilica, ducking in an and out of shops and having lunch at a burger played called Moa Burger that did kiwi style burgers?? I feel like Ferg Burger was the inspiration behind this one..
A bit more wandering before heading back to the Airbnb to put up our feet. Monita found a sushi place quite close to us. They did a traditional Unami style set menu when the chef creates a set amount of courses and pieces based on what produces/fish they have and their personal preference and style. Needless to say it was the best sushi I’ve ever had so far. Sadly I hadn't taken my camera!
The next morning we were up early to make it to the train station on time to get our train to Warsaw. Find the link here.
I love creating images that speak to me.
I grew up in a small town that nobody really knows about, Levin. Spent a good ten years in Hamilton making some of the best friends anyone could have. And now I’m living, working and playing in the city of Auckland, New Zealand. Also a small country that people have trouble locating – I’m looking at you America!
Life is about stories, and that’s what I love to capture and document. My shooting style is unobtrusive. You may be a natural in front of the camera, or have no idea what to do but before we even start I’ll make sure you’re comfortable and relaxed.
Things I love: Travelling to wherever I can, my partner Monita, homemade burgers, wood fired pizzas, the smell of rain on a hot summers day, mountains, the snow, sunsets and sunrises, star gazing, natural light, the aesthetic of wood, crashing waves and day dreaming.
