Santorini / Greece
Day 1
Last year Monita and I spent a week sailing a part of the Mediterranean around Greece. This year we went back with my family to check out the two most popular islands; Santorini and Mykonos, plus a lesser known, but just as amazing island called Naxos.

We left London in the afternoon and arrived just before midnight, luckily our Airbnb host arranged a transfer from the hotel which made life easy. After a quick walk up to the 24 hour bakery it was time to adjust to the heat and get some sleep. We stayed in the town of Karterádos. It was super close to the airport, a 20 minute walk up to Fira – the capital of Santorini.
Oh and we flew over the alps in Switzerland, it was epic.
Day 2
After picking up our rental car (that our host also organised!) we headed south to the town of Pyrgos. It was a very cool town on the side of the hill. It was cool exploring once you get off the main street. The houses are connected with paths big enough for donkeys and not much else. It was fun walking around getting lost, like a maze! After being in the sun for an hour or so we jumped back in the car and headed further south to a beach on the east coast. Noon fast approached so some food was in order.
We stopped off in a town called Perissa but the beach wasn’t very inviting so we headed north to Kamari beach. We stayed for a couple of hours, got super burnt then headed up the coast to the top – Ammoudi Bay.
Even though watching the sunset from the Oia is highly overrated and super packed with people, it still has to be done. The walk from Ammoudi Bay up to Oia is a long steep ascent over 250 or so deep, long steps. We opted to go up riding the Donkey’s, sorry Donkey’s! We grabbed some Gyros and some gelato before squeezing past and inbetween people to find a spot to sit in.
Oia is the church, we are the Mass and the sunset is the religion.
It was then time to head back down the steps and endure the craziness of post-sunset Santorini traffic!
Day 3
We spent the first half of the day cruising around the caldera on a yacht. It was super relaxing and we got to eat, drink and swim while taking in the volcanic landscape that forms Santorini. Post-cruise we were dropped back to our Airbnb so we had a rest from the sun. Sunset no. 2, so we got ready and walked up to Fira for the sunset and our last meal in Santorini. Before heading back to the Airbnb we explored the town a bit before calling it a night. I love in Greece (and other countries in Europe) things open later in the day, close in the afternoons and then are open late into the night.
I love creating images that speak to me.
I grew up in a small town that nobody really knows about, Levin. Spent a good ten years in Hamilton making some of the best friends anyone could have. And now I’m living, working and playing in the city of Auckland, New Zealand. Also a small country that people have trouble locating – I’m looking at you America!
Life is about stories, and that’s what I love to capture and document. My shooting style is unobtrusive. You may be a natural in front of the camera, or have no idea what to do but before we even start I’ll make sure you’re comfortable and relaxed.
Things I love: Travelling to wherever I can, my partner Monita, homemade burgers, wood fired pizzas, the smell of rain on a hot summers day, mountains, the snow, sunsets and sunrises, star gazing, natural light, the aesthetic of wood, crashing waves and day dreaming.
