Morocco / Day 3
After breakfast at the hotel we got back on the road and headed towards Zagora. As we drove we stopped along the way a few times and Abdoul told us more about life in Morocco and lots of other interesting facts. Once we got to Zagora we ate another Moroccan lunch and had time to purchase head scarfs for the desert.
The Arabian people honour the land as this is their livelihood. It is their food, their solitude, their pride. When a father dies, it is handed to his sons and his daughters are paid. This custom is such that if a daughter was to receive the land then her husband (another man’s son) would work on the sacred land; the greatest disrespect. - Laura Morrison
After lunch we split into groups and jumped in the 4WD’s with our drivers. We stopped for ice and ice blocks before we headed into the desert. We drove for another hour and turned off into the sand, on our way to the M‘hamid camp two of the 4WD’s got stuck so that was a bit of fun! The camp set up was awesome, each tent had space for 4 beds and even had lights.
We dropped our bags and jumped onto the roof of the 4WD’s. It was like a scene out of Madmax! We got to the biggest dune and walked to the top then had 30 minutes to run around like mad.
I just looked around and thought "what even is life?" - Jess Dyer
The rest of the day was spent having a few drinks, watching the sun go down and sharing travel stories. Dinner was beef tajine with loads of veges, it was delicious!
