Melbourne
This was the third time I had the pleasure of visiting the bustling metropolis that is Melbourne. My first time in Melbourne was my birth, then a couple years ago and now this year.
Melbourne is awesome, full of shopping, food, street art, friends and family. The first three days we spent with family (a crew of 13 from New Zealand) reminiscing and getting involved with my cousins wedding. And no there isn’t a wedding post coming... I was a guest! It was nice to soak in the atmosphere of the wedding without the pressure of getting the shot!
We then stayed at a hotel right in the CBD with everything we could want at our finger tips. After two days of cafes, coffee, spending cash and exploring we said goodbye to family and headed north of the city to stay with good friends Brook and Brit, and their Birman Oscar. Such a chill kitty.
Brook and Brit have the coolest renovated bungalow in Coburg. Shout out to them for the wicked hospitality! Brook and I met roughly ten years ago and we've shared dreams together so it was amazing to see him absolutely killing it in Melbourne as a photographer.
The rest of our days were spent exploring, shopping, eating and chasing light. Our final adventure was an overnight trip to the Twelve Apostles on the Great Ocean Road, something Monita and I really wanted to do. We packed bags, picked Brit from work and headed west to a small town called Colac. The hotel-motel was an utter disappointment but we were lucky to get a room each at the last minute. However we will never go back to Colac.
Rising at 4am, sleepy eyed we pushed south west and made it to the Twelve Apostles just as dawn was breaking. And we weren’t the only ones, the lookouts were packed with people and cameras. We enjoyed the moment, captured the hell out of it and made the four and a half hour journey back up to Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road.
The next day I flew home, but left a big part of me in Melbourne. #origins
Enjoy!
I love creating images that speak to me.
I grew up in a small town that nobody really knows about, Levin. Spent a good ten years in Hamilton making some of the best friends anyone could have. And now I’m living, working and playing in the city of Auckland, New Zealand. Also a small country that people have trouble locating – I’m looking at you America!
Life is about stories, and that’s what I love to capture and document. My shooting style is unobtrusive. You may be a natural in front of the camera, or have no idea what to do but before we even start I’ll make sure you’re comfortable and relaxed.
Things I love: Travelling to wherever I can, my partner Monita, homemade burgers, wood fired pizzas, the smell of rain on a hot summers day, mountains, the snow, sunsets and sunrises, star gazing, natural light, the aesthetic of wood, crashing waves and day dreaming.
