Positano & Amalfi / Italy

Positano & Amalfi / Italy

As described by Lonely Planet, Positano is precipitously picturesque. It is the poster child for the Amalfi Coast with houses gripping to the cliffside, tumbling all the way down to the sea. From afar the the colours, steep streets and steps are every bit photo worthy. Look closely and you’ll see the crumbling stucco and reworked paint. If you’re hear to do-it-all, you’re in the wrong place. Positano is the place to go to reset your batteries. Soak up the sun, eat all the carbs, repeat.

We had three nights in Positano, arriving from bus from Sorrento in the morning. If you’re coming in by car, good luck. The road is narrow, drivers are crazy and the congestion easily rivals Auckland. Even if you’re on a scouter, I hope your insurance policy is rock solid.

Once we managed to get our bags down the multitude of stairs, our lovely host showed us the apartment, made us feel at home and left us to be. It was then to tackle the stairs down to the beach and generally just get lost - the best way to experience Positano.

The next day we tackled The Path of the Gods, check it out here.

Our final day in Positano we made the bus journey back to Amalfi, still couldn’t get over the way people drive these narrow roads. The idea was to take the boat back from Amalfi to Positano so we could see it from the water but the weather had other plans. The wind had picked up and the water too rough to run the ferries.  Knowing waiting around for bus to get back would be a nightmare to, we kept our visit short. So we made sure to fill that time with food. Deep fried seafood, lemon cake and gelato (our last Italian gelato for a long time #sad). After a little wonder around we waited around for bus that felt like would never arrive. The journey back was windy, but the left side of the bus meant all the views to take in. It was back to the Airbnb to pack up and get ready for the early start in the morning. Next stop - Portugal.

Also writing this post I learnt that; Positano was the first in Italy to import bikinis from France.

I love creating images that speak to me.

I grew up in a small town that nobody really knows about, Levin. Spent a good ten years in Hamilton making some of the best friends anyone could have. And now I’m living, working and playing in the city of Auckland, New Zealand. Also a small country that people have trouble locating – I’m looking at you America!

Life is about stories, and that’s what I love to capture and document. My shooting style is unobtrusive. You may be a natural in front of the camera, or have no idea what to do but before we even start I’ll make sure you’re comfortable and relaxed.

Things I love: Travelling to wherever I can, my partner Monita, homemade burgers, wood fired pizzas, the smell of rain on a hot summers day, mountains, the snow, sunsets and sunrises, star gazing, natural light, the aesthetic of wood, crashing waves and day dreaming.
